Day 1: Transfer to Bukavu – DR Congo

Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport in Rwanda, you will be picked by our company representative and after on embark on an adventurous drive southwards while viewing the green beautiful countryside plains of Rwanda. We shall head straight to Cyangugu boarder as we proceed with our journey to Bukavu, DR Congo. Lunch will be at Butale Ibis hotel and depending on how much time we have left, we could visit some nice places along the Nyungwe road. After crossing the boarder, we shall retire at our accommodation facility for dinner and an overnight.

Day 2: Lowland Gorilla trekking and Transfer to Goma

If you have read a lot about Mountain Gorillas, this is the day you view a different species of these primates, the Lowland gorillas. After an early morning, we shall embark on a drive to Kahuzi Biega National Park for our Lowland Gorilla trekking experience, a drive that should take us a maximum of 1 hour depending on the speed we drive at. Upon reaching Kahuzi Biega National park, we shall head straight to the park headquarters for a short briefing session as we get entertained by the local cultural dance from locals. We shall rise to a heavy early morning breakfast and embark on a 1 hour drive to Congo’s world heritage site, Virunga National Park for a mountain gorilla trekking safari activity. We shall head straight to the park’s headquarters in Bukima for a short briefing session that should last for a maximum of 30 minutes. It is from this meeting that we shall be briefed about the dos and donts of gorilla tracking, told the precautions to take, given tips and assigned to various groups of mountain gorillas. We shall then make our strides into the jungles of Virunga National Park as we search for these gentle primates in the wild. This trek should last somewhere between 2 – 6 hours depending on the movements of these gorillas including a full hour of close contact with them. After tracking mountain gorillas, we shall head to our place of stay for dinner and an overnigh.

Day 4: Mount Nyiragongo Hike

Day 4 highlights a very challenging adventure. This is the day we climb one of the greatest volcano mountains in Africa, Mount Nyiragongo. We shall rise to an early morning breakfast and embark on a journey to Kibati, the starting point of the great hike under the protection of an armed guard. This adventurous hike takes about 6 – 7 hours depending on how fast your group moves hence, calls for you to be at your best physical state. Upon reaching the top of the volcano, we shall descend a bit and have dinner and an overnight near the top of the volcano.

Day 5: Descend to Goma – Rwanda

This day we descend to Goma and should arrive at Kibati, the starting point of the hike in the morning around noon where we won’t stay for long but rather just drive off to Goma for a lunch break and later on transfer to Gisenyi as we proceed with our journey back to Kigali to catch up with our evening flight. This drive should take us about 4 hours drive assuming we are driving at an average speed of 60 kilometers per hour in Rwanda. You will be transferred to a hotel in Kigali for an overnight or Kigali International Airport for your return flight.
