Day 1: Arrival and Kigali City Tour

On your arrival, you will be picked up by our company representative at Kigali International Airport, transferred to your accommodation facility to drop off your luggage and go straight for a city tour / excursion around Kigali City. This city tour will give you sights of the Gisozi genocide memorial site – a place that depicts Rwanda’s bitter past, the national library of Rwanda, local markets and craft shops / villages. After this short relaxing history-revealing excursion, you will return to your place of stay for dinner and overnight as we prepare for more activities in Akagera National Park the following day.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park & Afternoon Boat Cruise

This day highlights one of the best tourism activities, wildlife viewing. We shall wake up to a heavy breakfast meal before we hit the roads for our next destination, Akagera National Park where we should reach before lunch so that we have enough time to have a meal, relax a bit and later on head for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. This boat trip will reward you sights of crocodiles, hippopotamuses, water birds plus several other animals.

Day 3: Morning Game Viewing Drive and Afternoon Boat Cruise

After breakfast, we shall drive of to the northern part of Akagera National Park for a much broader wildlife viewing drive where we shall see animals like the lions, giraffes, antelopes, bush bucks plus many more others. If lucky, you should see at least three of the big five game animals or even four depending on their respective movements. We shall then return to our place of stay for a short relaxation moment and lunch as we prepare for another boat trip in the afternoon where we should chance more wildlife, even some we didn’t see the previous day.

Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

On the fourth day, we have breakfast as usual and embark on a long journey to one of Africa’s thickest montane forests, Nyungwe Forest a midst stopovers in Nyanza museum, Butare museum plus more sight rewarding places for excellent photography moments. We should reach Nyungwe Forest National Park in the evening where we won’t do much but rather relax, enjoy delicious meals and have an overnight as we prepare for the next day.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking

Day 5 should make you feel good already because you are already in the middle of your 10 days best of Rwanda safari, where the spark is at it’s brightest. You shall have an early morning breakfast meal at your place of stay then head right away to Nyungwe forest headquarters for a short briefing moment before we proceed in the forests to look for Chimpanzees. Chimpanzees over trek hence, finding them might be quite a challenge depending on their movements. This shouldn’t worry you because the park rangers know the exact spots where you can trek Rwanda chimpanzees from. We shall also spot a number of primates as we edge closer to the chimps which will reward you something diverse from your main target.

Day 6: Canopy walk & Community / Village Walk

On the sixth day, we shall rise up to an early breakfast meal before going for the breathtaking walk on East Africa’s only Canopy across Nyungwe Forest and we spot Chimpanzees plus other primates rising to the sun. This activity will give you the best view of this montane forest and the fact that you cant find it anywhere else in East Africa implicates it’s an opportunity you should definitely maximize on. After the canopy walk, we shall return to our place of stay for a lunch break, relax a bit and head for an afternoon community walk.

Day 7: Transfer to Volcanoes national park & visit twin lakes

On Day 7 we transfer to Volcanoes National Park with some stop overs on the way for photo moments and lunch. Before reaching, we shall briefly visit the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera and then proceed to our accommodation facility for dinner and an overnight as we prepare ourselves for a mountain gorilla trekking experience the following day.

Day 8: Gorilla tracking

Rise to an early heavy breakfast at your place of stay then drive off to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a short briefing that commences at exactly 7:30am. After this brief meeting that should instill you with the dos and donts of mountain gorilla trekking, you shall then enter the jungle and begin your quest for mountain gorillas which might last up to 6 hours with one full hour of close encounters depending on the movements of these primates.
You shall then return for lunch and rest at your lodge before going for an afternoon community walk at Ib’iwachu Cultural village.

Day 9: Golden Monkey Tracking / Dian Fossey Hike – Transfer to Gisenyi

This day comes with two options, you will have to choose between Golden Monkey Trekking or visiting the Karisoke research centre – a spot where Dian Fossey, an American zoologist and anthropologist spent years carrying out research about mountain gorillas before her sudden demise. You will visit her grave that lies next to Digit – a Silverback that succumbed to poaching. On our return, we shall embark on a journey to Lake Kivu, Gisenyi where we shall reach in the evening.

Day 10: Boat cruise and transfer to Kigali

Early morning after breakfast, you will enjoy a boat ride on one of the greatest lakes in Africa, Lake Kivu where we shall ride up to the coffee island whilst having sights of surrounding islands as well. After this breathtaking activity, we shall return for lunch and them embark on a journey to our final destination, Kigali as we prepare for departure or rather be dropped off at your hotel of stay.
