This 6 days Rwanda safari was designed in a way that the first days come with tiring activities like Gorilla tracking, Golden Monkey tracking where as the last days have much relaxing safari activities / excursions in Gisenyi, Lake Kivu.
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After an early morning breakfast, you will be picked by our company representative and driven around Kigali for a brief city tour before making our final destination to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri. We shall arrive late in the evening and do nothing much relax, have dinner plus an overnight as we prepare for a mountain gorilla tracking experience the following day.
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking and Ibywacu Cultural Village
We shall wake to a very heavy breakfast meal at your place of stay considering the fact that we are trekking mountain gorillas this day then after set off to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a short briefing meeting that should instill us with knowledge regarding the dos and donts of Gorilla Tracking. After this meeting we shall make our final strides to the jungles of Volcanoes in search for mountain gorillas. This activity should take between 2 to 8 hours depending on the movements of gorillas with a full hour of an encounter with these primates where we shall get a chance to take breathtaking photographs, interact with them and just have a good moment. After this adventure, we shall head back to our place of stay for relaxation and lunch before heading out for a community visit at Ibyi’Wacu Cultural Village.
We shall then return to our place of stay for dinner, relaxation and an overnight as we prepare for another primates encounter the following day.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking and Twin Lakes Visit
This is the day we get close to the Golden Monkeys of Rwanda and the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera. After having our early morning breakfast, we shall head to the park’s headquarters in Kinigi and after make our way into the jungles of Volcanoes in search for Golden Monkeys. This activity can last up to 4 hours including a full hour of an encounter with these primates. We shall then return to our place of stay for lunch and then head for a visit to the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera in the afternoon where we shall have sights of the local communities along with their projects. After this visit we shall return to the lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight.
Day 4: Dian Fossey Tomb Hike and Transfer to Gisenyi – Lake Kivu
Very early in the morning, we shall head for a Dian Fossey hike where we shall visit the actual tomb plus the remains of the Karisoke research center, a place where Fossey carried out her research from. Dian Fossey was an America Zoologist who dedicated her life to researching about gorillas and conserving them for all the years she spent in the Volcanoes until her sudden demise. After this historic visit, we shall return toour lodge for lunch and then transfer to Gisenyi – Lake Kivu after with stop overs at the Murambi Genocide Memorial Site and the King’s palace. We shall reach Lake Kivu in the evening, have dinner at it’s shores before heading to our lodge for relaxation and an overnight as we prepare for more exciting activities the following day.
Day 5: Boat Ride and Nyamurundi Island Tour
We shall have early breakfast at our lodge and later on embark on a boat ride touring one of the deepest lakes in Africa, Lake Kivu. This lake is apparently the largest fresh water lake in Rwanda and rewards tourists a much more relaxing environment. This boat ride is the perfect opportunity for you to visit the them Nyamurundi island, an island that portrays the best environment of coffee planting. From here you will not only see the world’s best arabica coffee beans but also learn about coffee making. We shall then proceed to our place of stay for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Kigali City Tour and Departure
We shall have breakfast at the lodge and later on embark on our journey back to Kigali for a broad city tour where we shall visit a lot of cultural markets, sites that carry a lot of history like the Gisozi genocide memorial monument, the national museum along with so many other places. After this tour, we shall have our lunch and drive off to Kigali International Airport for your flight or rather be dropped off at your hotel around Kigali City.
